GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF COLLECTION

The personal collection of the British Architect and collector Sir John Soane (1752-1837). Includes antiquities, works of art, prints and drawings and books.

1. OVERALL PLANS

A Areas which could contain looted items
None.

B Areas excluded and why
Sir John Soane obtained a private Act of Parliament in 1833 establishing the museum. The Act came into effect on his death in 1837 and sealed the collection. Although there have been some subsequent acquisitions of works on paper, these have all been material of relevance to the main collection or the history of the museum. It is therefore highly unlikely that any items would have been subject to wrongful seizure during the Holocaust and WWII period.
