GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF COLLECTION
The Library is the repository for an extensive collection of printed material (books, periodicals), archives and manuscripts and visual, sound and moving image material, relating to Wales. The collection includes, for example, 40,000 volumes of manuscripts, over 4 million printed volumes, books, periodicals and newspapers; 4 million archival documents; 750,000 photographic images, 60,000 pictures, 11,000 sound recordings, and thousands of hours of television broadcasts.
1. OVERALL PLANS
A Areas which could contain looted items
It is thought that none of the collection could contain spoliated works.
B Areas excluded and why
It is thought that very little of the collection will be relevant as the Library's acquisition policy places great emphasis on the relevance and importance of material to Wales and the Welsh People.
C Target areas and timetable for research
All items acquired after 1933 were checked by the end of 1999.
2. RESEARCH CARRIED OUT OR BEING CARRIED OUT IN TARGET AREAS.
A Process and sources for initial checks from information readily to hand
Staff in charge of the art and manuscript subject libraries have checked the files and accession lists for the period in question, checking donations, bequests, deposits, purchases and legal deposits for all art collections acquired by the Library for the relevant period and are satisfied that, as far as they can tell, nothing is likely to give rise to concern.
B Description of checks being carried out beyond desk research
No further investigative work is planned unless the library receives a specific query.
3. INFORMATION REGARDING PROGRESS IN TARGET AREA
Checks have been carried out in accordance with 2A above, for all items acquired since 1933
