Applied Art, Print and Coin collections, at least temporarily.

INITIAL FOCUS FOR RESEARCH
We estimate that only a small amount of works in this collection will present spoliation queries. We have focused our research initially on the oil paintings and will then work on the watercolours, drawings and sculpture.

TIMESCALE FOR RESEARCH
Ongoing with a view to finishing by the end of 2010

2. RESEARCH PLANNED IN TARGET AREAS

METHOD OF RESEARCH
Individual checks of curatorial dossiers and other documentation. Staff contacting vendors in order to establish previous provenance.

3. RESEARCH COMPLETED
Staff have begun to attempt to establish provenance of all foreign
paintings and sculpture.

4. INFORMATION ON MAKING GENERAL ENQUIRIES ABOUT THE COLLECTION

ARCHIVES
The relevant archives held by Aberdeen Art Gallery comprise the curatorial files kept for each object in the collection, which contain all known details of provenance. This includes original correspondence dating from the founding of the Gallery in 1885 to the present day.
